If your Mum and Dad are about to visit an electrical retail store, you can help them check the energy 'star rating' on washing machines, refrigerators and other white goods.
As part of the Australian Government Reach for the Stars program, some household electrical appliances have a label with a number of stars (from one to six stars).
The most efficient appliances have a six-star rating and they will use less electricity. Six-star appliances will help to save money on electricity bills and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
To make it easier for you to compare star ratings and energy savings, you can use an “energy-smart” slide-rule calculator, which is available free of charge at many Western Australian retail stores. The calculator and related brochures are available at the following stores – Rick Hart, Retravision, Fridge and Washer City, Betta Electrical, The Good Guys and Harvey Norman.
