Planting for the future

Tree planting is a fun family activity that helps the environment in so many ways.

Trees.....

  • A native seedlingsoak up carbon dioxide and release oxygen for us to breathe
  • help fight the enhanced greenhouse effect and slow down global warming
  • help recycle water
  • provide food and shelter for humans and wildlife
  • help to prevent soil erosion
  • and much more!

Without trees there would be no life on this planet!

10 easy steps to tree planting

  1. Select seedlings that are native to the area.
  2. Dig a hole wide and deep enough to cover the root system.
  3. Carefully remove the seedling from the container without tearing the leaves or roots.
  4. Place the plant gently in the hole.  Make sure the root system is not above the soil surface.
  5. Fill around the plant with soil.  Press the soil down firmly to remove air pockets.
  6. Make sure the plant is standing up straight.
  7. Carefully water the plant to remove any air pockets.
  8. Mulch around the seedling leaving a gap around the stem, or sprinkle a handful of granular soil wetter.
  9. Allow enough space between the seedlings so they won't be crowded when fully grown.
  10. Look after your baby trees!  You can help by watering, weeding, mulching and protecting them from animals and the weather.
  11. A tray of seedlings ready to plant.
