  • A straw
  • Sticky tape
  • String
  • A long balloon

What to do

  • Thread the string through the straw and fasten the ends of the string across a room.
  • Blow up the balloon then hold the valve firmly so that no air escapes.
  • Tape the balloon to the straw.
  • Release the balloon and watch it move along the string.
  • Set up more strings and race your friends!

Why?

When the balloon is released, the air escaping from the balloon propels it along the string.
